The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) will shortly open two new campuses in Jhajjar and Sonipat, Haryana. Rangan Banerjee, the director of IIT Delhi, made the announcement. He also stated that the new campus will be completed by the end of November 2023.
The IoE-funded SATHI building on the Sonipat campus is expected to be finished by November 2023. The project's entire cost is Rupees 59.73 Crore. The Jhajjar campus will be the country's first Patient-Specific Drug Development Institute for Cancer Treatment.
IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Campus
Banerjee also announced that formal programmes at the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus will start in 2024. “We still need approvals, both internally and externally. We have different mechanisms to do admissions in both India and UAE. We are trying to have a blend of both. Our aim is to have diversified classrooms,” he said in a press conference.
A temporary campus for IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi has already been designated, and work on customizing existing facilities to IIT Delhi's specifications has already begun, according to the institute.
As part of the 'IITs Go Global' initiative, IIT Delhi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July to develop an IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi. After IIT Madras Zanzibar, this will be the second foreign IIT campus.
The courses at IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi will address a wide range of topics, including energy and sustainability, artificial intelligence, computer science and engineering, healthcare, mathematics and computing, and other engineering, science, and humanities subjects.
A three-week mathematics immersion program is currently happening in Abu Dhabi (July-August 2023), where selected high school students are completing an intensive mathematics program taught by IIT Delhi experts. This curriculum is intended to provide gifted high school students with a challenging in-class mathematics education.
Meanwhile, as part of its attempts to reach out into the Abu Dhabi education environment, IIT Delhi has planned a broad variety of different outreach events through the end of the year and beyond. In the coming month, the Institute plans to organize further training seminars for various stakeholders in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
