From the upcoming academic session, all state universities in Bihar will offer four-year bachelor degree programs through the choice based credit system (CBCS), according to a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan. This decision was made at a high-level meeting presided over by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who is also the chancellor of state universities.
Currently, most colleges in the state offer three-year degree programs. Senior education department officials and nearly all state university vice chancellors attended the meeting. According to reports, the meeting was extended until late on April 13 evening, and the decision was made based on the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Four-Year Degree Courses In Bihar State Varsities
According to an official statement issued by the Raj Bhavan, four-year bachelor's degree courses under the CBCS and semester system will be introduced beginning with the upcoming annual academic session (2023-27). In the first year of the CBSC and semester system's implementation, universities will begin their own admissions process. Whereas universities will follow the centralized admission process beginning with the next academic session, the expert committee will also begin to decide the curriculum for the first year of the new system, according to the statement.
Students will be able to choose skill-oriented papers, inter-disciplinary and intra-disciplinary courses, and even courses from other disciplines, using the CBCS system. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has developed a four-year graduation course structure, which has been adopted by several universities, including Delhi University (DU).
Impact Of Revised Courses
The integration of the revised courses would have an impact on skill development training from the start of the first year. The undergraduate programs under the choice-based credit system will be divided into eight semesters, and students will receive a certificate after completing one of two semesters, according to a senior education department official.
