Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar launched the National Crop Insurance Portal's digitised claim settlement module 'DigiClaim' in New Delhi, India on March 24, 2023. The module is part of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and will disburse claims electronically to farmers in six states. The launch is a revolutionary step towards ensuring that farmers can receive claim amounts digitally in a time-bound and automated manner, empowering them and making them self-sufficient.

DigiClaim Module Launch And Benefits

Union Minister Tomar announced at the launch that with the DigiClaim Module, insurance claims totaling Rupees 1260.35 crore were disbursed to insured farmers in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana with the click of a button on March 23, 2023. The procedure will be repeated as soon as the claims are made public. With this launch, the automated claim settlement process will become a continuous activity, easing the lives of all insured farmers and providing them with a steady financial flow and support.

Farmers' claims will be processed directly to their respective bank accounts in a transparent and accountable manner, which is one of the major benefits of the DigiClaim Module. The integration of the National Crop Insurance Portal (NCIP) and the Public Finance Management System (PFMS) enabled the technology. This would have a direct impact on the claim reversal ratio, which is expected to fall as a result of DigiClaim. Another notable aspect of this digital advancement is that farmers will be able to track the claim settlement process on their mobile phones in real time and reap the benefits of the scheme.

Rejoining PMFBY: A Glimmer Of Cooperative Federalism

The Central Government is currently working closely with all exited states from the scheme and has met with their senior officials. Andhra Pradesh and Punjab are rejoining the scheme, which is a shining example of cooperative federalism. Telangana, Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand governments have also been approached to join PMFBY, and several discussions have taken place. Telangana and Jharkhand have indicated a willingness to return to the PMFBY regime.
