The Indian Navy Forces and the Royal Saudi Naval Forces recently met in Mumbai to finalise plans for the upcoming joint naval exercise, 'Al-Mohed-Al Hindi-23,' which will take place in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, in May 2023. This is the second exercise between the two countries, the first was held in August 2021.
The exercise's goal is to improve interoperability between the two navies by performing tactical manoeuvres, search and rescue operations, and an electronic warfare drill. It will serve as a forum for the two countries to strengthen military ties and deepen cooperation between their navies.
India And Saudi Arabia’s Strong Relationship
The decision to hold joint naval exercises was made during the 2019 Riyadh Summit, which marked a watershed moment in India-Saudi Arabia relations. The summit was attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, both of whom emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. The two countries' relationship has grown stronger over the last five years.
Economic And Trade Relations Between India And Saudi Arabia
In recent years, India and Saudi Arabia have strengthened their economic ties. The two countries have one of the world's largest economies and significant potential for collaboration in a variety of sectors.
Saudi Arabia is India's fourth-largest trading partner and an important oil supplier. In contrast, India is one of Saudi Arabia's fastest-growing export markets. In 2021, India and Saudi Arabia agreed to build a $15 billion oil refinery and petrochemical complex in India's Maharashtra state, which is expected to strengthen bilateral economic ties.
