The Indian Navy recently announced that two awards will be named after the late General Bipin Rawat, India's first Chief of Defence Staff. The announcement was made on the eve of the late General's 65th birthday. The awards will be given to deserving individuals who have made outstanding contributions in their respective fields.
Award
The first award, the Gen. Bipin Rawat Rolling Trophy, will be awarded to the 'First Lady Agniveer Trainee in overall order of merit'. The award honours outstanding achievements by women in the Army and demonstrates the Navy's commitment to promoting gender equality in the armed forces.
General Bipin Rawat's Rolling Trophy for the 'Most Spirited Officer' pursuing a naval higher command course at Naval War College in Goa is the second award. The award recognises outstanding performance of officers in training and is intended to motivate them to continue striving for excellence.
