Description
Yamunotri Dham is one of the four well-known Hindu pilgrimages in the Himalayas. Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath are three other well-known Hindu pilgrimages in the Himalayas. Yamunotri Dham serves as the starting point for the annual pilgrimage, which takes place from May to October. It is located near the mouth of the Yamuna River.
Yamunotri, located in the Garhwal region, is the source of the Yamuna River. It is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand at an elevation of 3,291 metres. The temple is only accessible via a 13-kilometer trek from Hanuman Chatti.
The temple is located at the base of Kalind Parbat. The mighty Bandarpoonch Parbat stands to the side of the temple.
Why Is Yamunotri Dham In News?
Uttarakhand's state government has signed a contract to build a 3.38-kilometer ropeway connecting Janki Chatti in Kharsali to Yamunotri Dham. The ropeway will reduce the current travel time of 2 to 3 hours to 20 minutes. The estimated cost is Rupees 166.82 crore. Based on Mono-Cable Detachable Gondola system technology, this ropeway will be built at a height of 10,797 feet.
Yamunotri Represents Which God?
Yamunotri is the goddess Yamuna. Goddess Yamuna is the sun god Lord Surya's daughter, according to Hinduism. She is also the twin sister of Lord Yam, the god of death. Hindus believe that drinking and bathing in Yamuna water cleanse their sins. Because of her connections with KAAL, the lord of death (Yam), Goddess Yamuna is also known as "KALINDI".
Who Constructed The Yamunotri Temple?
The temple was built in 1839 by Tejri Naresh Sudarshan Shah. An earthquake later destroyed the temple. In the nineteenth century, the Maharaja of Jaipur Gularaja rebuilt the temple.

The flower blooms only once a year, in July and August. Lord Krishna is represented by the flower. The 100 Kauravas are represented by the reddish stalks. Hindus regard the flower as sacred. Because of her associations with Lord Krishna, the flower plays an important role in the worship of the Yamuna goddess.
