The central government has cleared the way for the Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, to establish an off-campus centre at Bowrampet Village, Medchar Malkajgiri District Greater Hyderabad, on the advice of the higher education regulatory body, University Grants Commission (UGC).  The new off-campus centre will commence from the academic session 2022-23.

According to a UGC statement, on May 6, 2019, the centre declared the foundation to be a deemed-to-be university and extended the deemed status until 2024 with specific conditions. After five years, UGC will review the off-campus centre.

As  per the official statement, “In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the UGC Act, the central government, on the advice of UGC, do hereby permits Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh to start an off-campus centre at Bowrampet Village, Medchal Malkajgiri district, Greater Hyderabad from the academic year 2022-23.”

The Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation will have to meet specific criteria to begin the off-campus centre in Greater Hyderabad. According to the notification, the conditions include submitting a legal undertaking to maintain a corpus fund of Rupees 10 crore permanently in the name of the Deemed to be University through irrevocable Government Securities, obtaining approval from respective Statutory Councils for the proposed programmes, and maintaining a teacher-student ratio of not less than 1:20.
