Description

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on December 21 said that the government will look for a new location for the permanent IIT campus in the coastal state after the Centre recently stated that the project site in Sanguem was unsuitable. Notably, the plan to establish a permanent campus was thwarted on two occasions.

Following villagers' protests, the proposed IIT Goa campus project was moved out of Shel-Melavali village in Sattari taluka in January 2021. On the most recent occasion, the Centre claimed that the site in Sanguem's Cotarlim village was "inadequate" for establishing the facility.

After attending the state cabinet meeting, Mr. Sawant told to reporters, "The IIT Goa campus would be set up for sure. We are identifying the suitable land to set up the facility.”
