Description

M K Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, on November 28 unveiled Vanavil Mandram (Rainbow Forum), a novel programme to stimulate students' interest in science. It aims to increase students' interest in studying STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in classes 6 through 8.

Ministers K N Nehru, Thangam Thennarasu, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, and Tiruchirappalli Mayor M Anpahagan were among those present for the event's opening ceremony at the Pappakurichi Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Kattur. In order to encourage students' interest in science, the Chief Minister also waved off 100 mobile science and math laboratories on behalf of the school education department. On a monthly basis, under proper supervision, they would teach students in science experiments and mathematics while showcasing student-made science tools.

The scheme is expected to cost Rupees 25 crore and will benefit 25 lakh government school students. Later, the Chief Minister met with the students in the classrooms where they were conducting science projects under the direction of the teachers. Teachers from all over the state who had showed interest in taking part in the programme have received special training so they may discuss the teaching strategies they have used so far and offer suggestions for how to continue implementing the programme.

Around 710 STEM facilitators from Tamil Nadu have been chosen to conduct this programme, and they will operate as mobile science and mathematics experimenters. They will also assist students in classes 6th through 8th in conducting simple science experiments.
