Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, on November 24, attended bilateral discussions with his counterparts from Mauritius, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Ghana. During bilateral meetings, the Union Education Minister urged for increased cooperation in education and skill development. Ministers from Mauritius, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Ghana have arrived in India to participate in the UNESCO-India Africa Hackathon, which is now taking place.
Mr. Pradhan stated during his meeting with Mauritius' Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, and Technology, Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun, that India and Mauritius have a special bond that is forged by history, culture, language, and the Indian Ocean.
The Union Education Minister also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it a top priority to strengthen bilateral ties with Mauritius. He informed Mauritius that India remained committed to assisting it in creating capacity in all areas of education and skill development.
According to an official statement, Education Minister Pradhan stated that India will be privileged to cooperate with Mauritius to create it as an African and South-east Asian knowledge and skills hub. Both countries committed to collaborate in order to enhance our engagements in the knowledge sector and make our alliance more dynamic.
Mr. Pradhan stated at a meeting with Zanzibar's Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Lela Muhamed Mussa, that India is delighted to support Tanzania with the IIT project. Tanzania's IIT can serve as an African centre for technology education. He proposed the necessary funding for the project's implementation and expressed India's commitment to create a 21st century skill centre in Zanzibar.
Mr. Pradhan and Raymore Machingura, Zimbabwe's Deputy Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in education and skill development. Both India and Africa share common objectives and priorities. Mr. Pradhan proposed that India and Zimbabwe form a collaborative working group on education, skill development, and capacity building. Mr. Machingura also expressed his desire to form a collaborative working group. Both Ministers agreed to expand our engagements from education to research in order to promote mutual prosperity and growth.
During his discussion with Ghana's Deputy Minister of Education, John Ntim Fordjour, Mr. Pradhan proposed the establishment of institutional frameworks and joint working groups between India and Ghana, ranging from pre-school to research, to achieve mutual priorities.
