Elvera Britto, the former captain of the Indian women's hockey team, died at the age of 81 owing to age-related issues. Karnataka's domestic squad won seven national titles under his leadership. From 1960 to 1967, she ruled the home circuit. She also represented India in international competitions against Japan, Sri Lanka, and Australia. After Anne Lumsden, she is the second woman hockey player to get the Arjuna Award (1965).
Elvera's death was mourned by Hockey India. "It is heartbreaking to learn of Elvera Britto's demise. She was ahead of her time and accomplished so much in women's hockey, as well as continuing to serve the sport as a state administrator "In a statement, HI president Gyanendro Ningombam stated.”We would like to convey our sincere condolences to her family on behalf of Hockey India and the whole hockey community."
