Today, Prime Minister Modi will attend the 400th Prakash Purab of Guru Tegh Bahadur, which will be held at Red Fort. On the occasion, the Prime Minister will deliver a speech and issue a commemorative coin and postal stamp. Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti 2022, also known as Prakash Parv 2022, is observed on April 21 across the country to commemorate the birth of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Sikhism's Ninth Guru.
The two-day event was opened on April 20 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also paid honour to Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur. The event being held at the Red Fort was a suitable tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur, according to the Union Minister, because his death warrant was issued from the Red Fort.
How will India commemorate Guru Tegh Bahadur Jayanti?
The Government of India, in partnership with the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, is organising a ceremony to commemorate Guru Tegh Bahadur's 400th Prakash Purab. Ragis and children from all across the country will engage in 'Shabad Kirtan' during the two-day festival on April 20 and 21. There will also be a big light and sound performance commemorating Guru Tegh Bahadur's life, as well as a demonstration of Sikhs' traditional martial art, 'Gatka.'
Shaheedi Diwas
Every year on November 24, Guru Tegh Bahadur's death anniversary is remembered as Shaheedi Diwas. Mughal emperor Aurangzeb ordered Guru Tegh Bahadur's execution, and his death warrant was issued from Red Fort. He was assassinated near the current location of a Gurudwara.
