Highlights
The United Nations celebrates Chinese Language Day every year on April 20th. On this day, Cangjie, a mythological person who is said to have invented Chinese letters roughly 5,000 years ago, is honoured.
The United Nations Department of Public Information established the day in 2010 to encourage equal use of the organization's six official working languages and to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity. The first Chinese Language Day took place on November 12th, 2010, but it was postponed until April 20th, 2011. The day celebrates multilingualism and cultural diversity while encouraging the organization's six official working languages to be used equally.
