Highlights
The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, has developed India's first Polycentric Prosthetic Knee, which will benefit thousands of amputees above the knee. A 'Made in India' product is 'Kadam,' a polycentric above-knee prosthesis created in collaboration with the Society for Biomedical Technology (SBMT) and Mobility India.
Above-knee amputees can now walk with a normal gait thanks to Kadam. Its goal is to increase users' mobility as well as their overall quality of life by increasing community participation and general well-being. It was created by a team from the TTK Center for Rehabilitation Research and Device Development (R2D2) at IIT Madras, which also created and commercialised the country's first standing wheelchair, the 'Arise,' as well as the NeoFly-NeoBolt.
