Description
The rebuilt Tamil Nadu Wildlife Board will be chaired by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, with state Forest Minister R. Ramachandran as Vice-Chairperson.
The State Board for Wild Life (SBWL) will be involved in the proper implementation of wildlife programmes as well as scientific project management. Under Section 6 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, the board will have a two-year term. The previous board's term expired in November 2021. MLAs N. Eramakrishnan, T. Udayasuriyan, I.P. Senthilumar, state DGP, conservationists, environmentalists, biologists, and members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from across the state would make up the reformed board. The member secretary of the board shall be the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden. "I would urge the state government take steps to limit human-wild animal conflicts and to prevent deaths caused by wild elephant attacks, especially in western Tamil Nadu," K. Kalidass, founder of Osai, a Coimbatore-based NGO. He also stated that, aside from environmentalists, biologists, and forest officials, the general public's support is more crucial for wildlife and forest protection.
