Govind Singh Thakur, the state Education Minister, announced on Sunday that the 'Shrimad Bhagavad Gita' will be taught to all school students in Himachal Pradesh beginning in Class 9. He made the remarks while launching the Divisional Office of the Public Works Department in Padhar village, Darrang constituency, Mandi. "The government is committed to giving every facility to the people of Darrang assembly constituency near their doorstep, as well as to the area's overall development," the Minister tweeted. "CM Jairam Thakur has said that 'Shrimad Bhagavad Gita' shall be taught to all school students from Class 9," Mr Thakur remarked at the event. Himachal Pradesh will join Gujarat as the second state to make the Bhagavad Gita a part of the school curriculum.

Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani said on March 17 that the Bhagavad Gita will be included in the school curriculum for students in grades 6 to 12 beginning in the academic year 2022-23. "To include Indian culture and knowledge system in school education from the academic year 2022-23, in the first phase, values and principles contained in Bhagavad Gita are being introduced in schools from classes 6-12 as per understanding and interest of children," Mr Vaghani said in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly during a discussion on budgetary allocation for the education department.
