On Monday, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) protested the allocation of hostels for first-year students as well as the restoration of library and mess services. The protest was held outside the Dean of Students' office (DoS). The students also protested the lack of a specialist at the JNU Health Centre and demanded that 'dhabas' remain open till late at night.
"It's been weeks since the institution resumed offline classes, and first-year students' hostel rooms have yet to be assigned. Furthermore, dhabas that used to stay open till 2:30 a.m. now close at 11 p.m "Anagha Pradeep, a JNUSU councillor, stated. "The JNU Health Centre lacks a specialist. We've asked the university to reinstate the specialist service, and they've agreed "she continued.
Their demand comes in the wake of the death on March 21 of a PhD student who had previously complained of chest problems. The students' organisation stated that he was not treated promptly by the health centre and that his referral to AIIMS was delayed.
