Highlights
The International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action is observed by the United Nations on April 4th. The goal of the Day is to raise awareness about landmines and the efforts being made to eliminate them. "Mine action" refers to a range of efforts aimed at removing landmines and other explosive remnants of war from the battlefield, as well as locating and fencing off dangerous areas. In 2022, the United Nations Mine Action Service will observe the Day under the theme "Safe Ground, Safe Steps, Safe Home."
The commemoration focuses on the enormous achievements of the worldwide mine action community, starting with the work of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL).
