Description

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has developed a technology that evaluates electric vehicle motors and batteries and recommends the best drivetrain components for the Indian market to original equipment manufacturers (OEM). According to an IIT Guwahati statement, this is a one-of-a-kind method for standardising electronic vehicles based on Indian drive-cycles.

According to the institute, researchers have not yet considered Indian drive-cycles. The developed drive cycles are not focused on rural and urban drive-cycles. The electric vehicles currently on the market also fail to account for India's diverse climatic conditions.

This study has been published with the ISBN 978-93-5578-973-0. The institute intends to expand the research to commercial vehicles, collaborating with OEMs to develop more efficient drive trains that are better suited to India's various climates. As the current project focuses solely on two-wheelers, the researchers are also working to develop this technology for four-wheelers.

Professor Praveen Kumar, Professor, Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, leads the researchers at IIT Guwahati's Electric Mobility Laboratory. The study focused on both rural and urban climate conditions in India. They devised a mechanism for recommending the optimal drivetrain for production. The IIT Guwahati team's drive-cycles are one-of-a-kind and not found anyplace else.

Professor TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, praised the researchers' work, saying, "The advancement in the field of next-generation energy-efficient EV technology is one of the most critical breakthroughs necessary for the country's sustainable growth and to reduce carbon footprint." IIT Guwahati is making great efforts in this direction. This development will help to speed up the procedure and improve the results."
