'Tap to Pay for UPI,' a new feature on Google Pay, extends the Tap to pay simplicity to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). The research began in collaboration with Pine Labs. In comparison to scanning a QR code or inputting a UPI-linked cell phone number, all a user needs to do to complete a payment is tap their phone on the POS terminal and authenticate the price with their UPI PIN, making the process nearly instantaneous. Any UPI user with an NFC-enabled Android smartphone who wants to transact with any Pine Labs Android POS terminal in the country can do so. Reliance Retail was the first to test it, and other major shops, such as Future Retail and Starbucks, would soon follow suit.
