The academic year of 97 newly established model high schools in Assam's tea garden areas, as well as 13 other new model high schools in the state, will begin on May 10, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. According to news agency the Chief Minister also stated that high schools were established in tea garden areas of Assam for the first time after 75 years of India's independence.

"The state has 800 tea gardens, yet there are no schools there." They only went up to elementary school. "We have decided to formally launch about 100 new 10+2 high schools in tea garden areas of the state from May 10 for the first time after 75 years of the country's independence," CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

During an orientation programme at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati, the Chief Minister told the principals and teachers of newly established model high schools in tea garden areas that the state government took the step to augment the academic environment in the tea garden areas by establishing 119 Model High Schools, of which 97 have been completed and academic session for the year 2022-23 will begin in these schools.

"From the next academic year, the remaining 22 model high schools in tea garden areas will be operational. In addition, the state government plans to build 81 new model high schools in tea garden areas, with the existing model high schools being upgraded to upper secondary schools. In addition to midday meals, the government intends to give breakfast to kids at these schools," Mr Sarma said.
