The New Delhi Municipal Council announced a special scholarship programme for the children of sanitation workers and Group C employees on Wednesday. This was resolved at a meeting on Wednesday, where other topics such as smart-grid infrastructure, including the enhancement of the existing network in the NDMC power distribution region, regularisation of lofts in Shankar Market, and drinking water difficulties were also reviewed.
Satish Upadhyay, NDMC Vice-Chairman, said at a news conference that the scholarship scheme will also apply to the children of NDMC employees who belong under the Group category. "During the conference, we passed a resolution in support of smart-grid infrastructure. 'Happiness zones' would be introduced in Mandi House in Central Delhi, and they will be expanded to other NDMC areas as well "According to the Vice-Chairman. The NDMC had previously developed green 'Happiness zones' in an attempt to fight air pollution in the national capital. Yashwant Place, Kautilya Marg, Nyay Marg intersection, and Ambedkar Vatika near Janpath are some of the green 'happy places.'
The council also agreed to prepare a plan for individual piped water connections in the JJ clusters and the remaining unapproved colonies under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Mr Chahal criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during the conference, alleging that the Delhi Jal Board had financial problems. "Mr Arvind Kejriwal failed to deliver on his pledge of providing safe drinking water to every family. We do use the Jal Board's resources to provide drinking water, but they are still in debt to the tune of Rs 3,500 crores "he stated.
