Description
For the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG 2021) admissions, the Supreme Court has annulled the All India Quota (AQI) mop-up round counselling. The mop-up round counselling has been cancelled in order to "resolve the anomalies" caused by the addition of 146 seats to the NEET PG mop-up round that were not available to applicants who participated in rounds 1 and 2.
A three-judge bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant, and Bela M Trivedi ordered an additional round of counselling for 146 new seats, allowing students who had joined the All India Quota (AIQ) or state quota in round two to participate.
The court ordered the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) to welcome students' alternatives within 24 hours and to conclude the process within 72 hours following the options deadline.
The bench clarified that all of the orders were issued in the exercise of its constitutional power under Article 142.
The Supreme Court ordered the Centre to retain the status quo in the mop-up round of NEET-PG 2021-22 counselling till Thursday, and instructed the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) to evaluate concerns such as the decision to add 146 extra seats.
