Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday directed all private schools not to raise fees or force children to buy books, uniforms, or stationery from specific stores just days before the new academic session begins. Mr Mann stated that parents want to provide their children with an education, but it has become prohibitively expensive.
"Today, I'm going to announce two major decisions that our administration has made in the education sector," Mann said in a video message before delivering the news. Mr Mann stated, "No private school in Punjab will raise fees this semester when new admissions take place."
He claims that no private school in the state will force students or their parents to buy books, uniforms, or stationery from a specific store. He stated that private schools will be required to reveal addresses of all shops providing stationery, books, and uniforms to students and their parents.
Mr Mann stated, "It is up to parents to decide where they want to buy these products for their children." He stated that the decisions will take effect immediately. He promised that a thorough policy on the subject will be released soon.
