Under the PM cares for children scheme, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked universities to create extra seats to accommodate Covid-orphaned children. Higher education institutes (HEIs) have been recommended by the UGC to develop such seats for children when they become eligible to pursue higher education.
Last year, the central government announced that the PM will look after orphaned Covid children. The Ministry of Women and Child Development is identifying these youngsters and will give them with the necessary assistance. According to a UGC announcement, the ministry will provide certificates to the youngsters under the PM Cares for Children Scheme 2021.
The government had already announced that 3,481 orphaned children from the COVID-19 epidemic had been authorised for benefits under the PM CARES for Children scheme. According to the Ministry of Women and Child Development's PM CARES for Children portal, there were 6,098 applications registered as of December 24, with 3,481 applications approved by district magistrates. It further stated that 3,275 beneficiaries had their post office accounts opened as part of the scheme.
Sponsorship of Rs 2,000 per kid per month is available under the scheme for non-institutional child care, and a maintenance grant of Rs 2,160 per child per month is offered for children residing in child care institutions.
