Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting an exception from existing norms to allow Indian medical students who have returned from Ukraine to enrol in medical universities in India in similar semesters.
The Chief Minister also proposed a one-time authorization to increase medical seats proportionately to allow displaced students to finish their degree.
"According to sources, more than 20,000 Indian students have been displaced from Ukraine as a result of the conflict. The majority of them come from middle-class families who will lose their life savings if their children's medical education is not completed. In his letter to PM Modi, Chief Minister Rao added, "You will agree that everything feasible should be done to secure their future."
More than 700 Telangana students have returned from Ukraine without completing their medical education, according to the Chief Minister, who also stated that the Telangana government has decided to cover the medical college fees for Telangana students.
