University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar said on Tuesday that the Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) will neither make board exams obsolete or encourage "coaching culture," and that students from state boards will not be disadvantaged in the undergraduate admission process. According to him, the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is in charge of administering the tests, will consider holding the CUET twice a year beginning with the next session.
Mr Kumar stated that CUET will not be confined to Central University admissions, as other notable private colleges have expressed interest in adopting the results of the common entrance exam for undergraduate admissions.
"CUET will be held only once this year, however NTA plans to hold the exam at least twice a year starting next session." The entrance exam will be open not only to Central Universities, but also to private universities. Several well-known private colleges have expressed an interest in joining CUET and admitting students through it," he stated.
