Description
The Maharashtra education government has said that state board schools for Classes 1 to 9 and 11 will operate 'full day' till April 30 to compensate for the academic loss suffered by children as a result of COVID-19, a decision that will alter students' summer holiday schedule. Annual exams for Classes 1 through 9 are usually completed by April 15, and vacation begins following that.
I M Kazi, Maharashtra government's joint secretary, issued a directive directing schools to operate full days on Saturdays instead of half days and voluntarily on Sundays. It further indicated that tests for grades 1 through 9 and 11 should be administered in the third week of April, with results announced in May.
The government should have published this GR by the end of February, according to Harishchandra Gaikwad, president of the Pune District Principals' association. He claimed that schools have already finished preparing for exams and have announced a timetable, and that many parents have already arranged their summer vacations accordingly.
"The education department has asked schools to announce results by May in this GR, but no date has been set. It would have been much easier for schools to plan if there had been a deadline "Ms. Gaikwad explained.
