Professor Emeritus Wilfried Brutsaert has been selected the Stockholm Water Prize Laureate 2022. He was recognised for his outstanding efforts in quantifying environmental evaporation. Wilfried Brutsaert is an Emeritus Professor of Engineering at Cornell University in the United States. His pioneering discoveries on evaporation and hydrology will be remembered for their theoretical and practical significance as proof of global climate change. Wilfried Brutsaert has also pioneered unique ways to studying changes in groundwater storage.
Stockholm Water Prize
Known colloquially as the Nobel Prize for Water. The Stockholm Water Prize is the world's most distinguished water award. Since 1991, the coveted Prize has been granted to individuals and organisations for exceptional water-related achievements. The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) awards the prize in collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The headquarters of the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) are in Stockholm, Sweden. Torgny Holmgren is the executive director of SIWI. SIWI was established in 1991.
