Description

India successfully test-fired two Indian Army, version Medium Range Surface to Air Missiles (MRSAMs) from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha, on Sunday. The flight tests were conducted as part of live-firing experiments against high-speed aerial targets, according to DRDO sources, who added that the missiles intercepted and destroyed the targets entirely, reporting direct hits at both ranges. The first missile was aimed at a medium-altitude long-range target, while the second was aimed at a low-altitude short-range target. This MRSAM variant is a Surface-to-Air Missile developed in collaboration between DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for deployment by the Indian Army. The MRSAM Army weapon system consists of multi-function radar, a mobile launcher system, and several vehicles. Flight testing was conducted using the armament system in its deliverable configuration. The weapon system's performance was confirmed using flight data gathered by range sensors like as radars, electro-optical tracking systems, and telemetry installed by ITR, Chandipur.

The flight tests were conducted in the presence of senior DRDO and Indian Army officers. "MRSAM-Army missile system flight tested from ITR Balasore at around 10:30 Hrs, intercepting a high speed aerial target at great range. The missile killed the target in a direct hit "DRDO issued a tweet. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the DRDO, Indian Army, and defence industries on the successful MRSAM-Army flying tests. He stated that both successful tests demonstrate the missile system's ability to intercept targets at crucial ranges. G Satheesh Reddy, chairman of the DRDO, praised the personnel engaged in the flying test. As a preventive measure, the Balasore district government relocated almost 7,000 residents from three villages along the ITR to safety.
