Steel minister Ram Chandra Prasad Singh emphasised the need of moving toward green steel on Sunday, stating that the usage of hydrogen in the iron ore and steel sectors will help cut coal imports. He further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a bold vision for hydrogen. "The iron and steel sector would benefit greatly since coal can be substituted with hydrogen, and our reliance on coal imports will be reduced," he added. During a day-long National Conference on 'Making India Atmanirbhar in Steel Role of Secondary Steel Sector,' Singh stated that proposals from the sector will be taken, and that the Centre's proclaimed goal is a smooth, transparent, and adaptable process. He stated that the sector has made significant progress in output, increasing from 22 million tonnes in 1991 to 120 million tonnes in 2021-22. He stated that a plan must be developed in order to meet the targets of 300 million tonnes by 2030 and 500 million tonnes by 2047.
In his remarks, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State for Steel, asked the industry to be outspoken about its needs and to present its opinions with confidence that they will be heard and that the government will seek to create an industry-friendly climate in our nation. The secondary steel sector is a varied business in its own right. The conference's ideas will be useful in establishing policy orientations for the government. The Minister of State for MSME, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, highlighted the numerous government support programmes for MSMEs and urged the industry to come up with ideas to boost the MSME sector in general and the steel sector in particular. The conference was organised to provide a venue for stakeholders in the Secondary Steel sector to exchange their perspectives on the sector's issues and ways in which the Ministry can build an ecosystem in which the business may grow.
