Lieutenant General Vinod G. Khandare (retired) has been appointed as Adviser inside the Ministry of Defence, where he will provide strategic insights and advise to the Defence Secretary on topics pertaining to military policy.
He'll work closely with the Secretary of Defense
The role's remit would be to provide strategic input and advice on defence strategy, preparedness, and related operations such as the International Military Corporation, maritime security, and defence space. Lt. Gen. Khandare resigned from the military at the end of January 2018. Until October 2021, he was the Military Adviser in the Prime Minister's Office's National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS). From November 2015 until January 2018, he was the Director-General of Defence Intelligence and the Deputy Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff for Intelligence. In September 1979, he joined the 14 Garhwal Rifles. He served in diverse terrains and operational responsibilities in Siachen, Jammu, Kashmir, Sikkim, and the northeast area for nearly four decades.
