The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has extended Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg's stay until September 30, 2023, according to a NATO statement. Following a NATO summit in Brussels, US President Joe Biden and other NATO leaders voted to extend Stoltenberg's term. Stoltenberg, a former Norwegian prime minister, was appointed NATO Secretary-General in October 2014. His tenure was slated to expire in September 2021.
I am humbled by the decision of NATO Heads of State and Government to extend my tenure as Secretary-General until September 30, 2023. Stoltenberg stated that we must remain together in order to keep our Alliance strong and our people safe as we face the most serious security crisis in a century.
