Gujarat has topped the Niti Aayog Export Preparedness Index 2021 rankings for the second year in a row, assessing states' export potential and performance preparation. Gujarat was followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, according to the government think tank. Lakshadweep, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Ladakh, and Meghalaya were among the worst-performing union territories and states. Speaking at the study's inauguration, NITI Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar said that India's exports are rising at a 36 percent annual rate, while global trade is growing at a 30 percent annual rate. "Over time, we'll see India's share in global goods trade rise from 1.6 to 1.7 percent," he added, noting that sectors such as automobiles, electrical machinery, and iron and steel contributed to the growth. The global commerce is valued around USD 24 trillion, with India's exports representing approximately USD 400 billion, showing "great" potential. The Export Preparedness Index assesses a state's potential and performance in terms of export preparation.
