Overview
This newly discovered species is a member of the 'queen fish' group. Scomberoides pelagicus is the scientific name for this fish. This fish is known as 'pola vatta' in the local language. There are around sixty carangid species in the Indian Ocean. Four of them are members of the 'Queen Fish' group, and the newly discovered fish is number five. Three queen fishes have gone extinct across the world owing to a variety of factors like as climate change, overfishing, and so on. The newly discovered species is present throughout the country's coastline area, as well as Kerala. This fish is also in high demand in local markets.
