Description

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the move a day after the Government of India signed an agreement with the World Health Organization to establish the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat, saying it will contribute to making the world a healthier place and leveraging the country's rich traditional practises for global good. "India is proud to host a cutting-edge WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine. This Center will help to make the world a healthier place by harnessing our rich traditional traditions for global good "On Saturday, the Prime Minister issued a tweet. According to the Prime Minister, this centre will improve societal welfare.

"Traditional Indian treatments and health practises are extremely popular across the world. This WHO Center will go a long way toward improving our society's wellbeing "Prime Minister Modi said. According to the Ministry of Ayush, the major goal of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine is to harness the potential of traditional medicine from across the world using contemporary science and technology in order to enhance the general health of people worldwide. This worldwide knowledge centre for traditional medicine, sponsored by a USD 250 million investment by the Government of India, intends to harness the potential of traditional medicine from across the world using contemporary science and technology in order to enhance people's health and the planet, the WHO said in a statement. According to WHO figures, traditional medicine is used by around 80% of the world's population. "Too far, 170 of the 194 WHO Member States have reported the use of traditional medicine, and their governments have requested WHO's assistance in developing a body of trustworthy evidence and data on traditional medicine practises and products," the study stated.

Traditional medicine refers to the whole of indigenous and various cultures' knowledge, skills, and practises for maintaining health and preventing, diagnosing, and treating physical and mental illness across time. Its scope includes both traditional and modern treatments such as acupuncture, ayurvedic medicine, and herbal mixes.

On April 21, 2022, the new WHO worldwide centre for traditional medicine in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India, will be officially opened.
