Jaishankar will pay a visit to the Maldives' Addu city, where he will meet with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and have talks with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid. External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will go to the Maldives and Sri Lanka for a four-day official tour from March 26 to 30, at the request of his colleagues in both countries. The EAMs will arrive in the Maldives today for a two-day visit from March 26-27, followed by a three-day visit to Sri Lanka from March 28-29, which will include his participation in the BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting in Colombo on March 29, 2022. Jaishankar will pay a visit to the Maldives' Addu city, where he will meet with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and have talks with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid, according to a news statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
"The bilateral talks and contacts that EAM will have in Sri Lanka reflect the significance that Sri Lanka has for India," according to the MEA statement.
"Both the Maldives and Sri Lanka are India's significant maritime neighbours in the Indian Ocean Region, and they have a special position in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'SAGAR' and Neighbourhood First. The visit of EAM demonstrates the significance that India places on its close and cordial relations with the Maldives and Sri Lanka "The statement went on to say.
