Highlights
The World Bank has issued the world's first wildlife conservation bond, raising $150 million to help South African attempts to boost the population of endangered black rhinos. The 'rhino bond' will pay investors depending on the pace of expansion of black rhino populations in South Africa's Addo Elephant National Park (AENP) and the Great Fish River Nature Reserve (GFRNR) during a five-year period. If the population rises, investors might expect a five-year return of between 3.7 percent and 9.2 percent.
It went on to explain that until the black rhino population changes, they would not be compensated. Black rhinoceroses are two-horned members of the rhinoceros family that are exclusively found in Africa.
