With this freshly obtained statistic, GeM has been recognised among the top five e-public procurement systems in the world. There are no Chinese items on this website. This site was developed in 2016 to enable all central ministries and departments to purchase products and services online. Based on current trends, the portal is likely to exceed Rs 1.5 lakh crore. The procurement of central public sector(CPSEs), enterprises for the current fiscal year totaled Rs 43,000 crore. Previously, it took the platform four and a half years to reach Rs 1 lakh crore, but this time it was accomplished in the current fiscal year. This platform has already registered over 10,000 start-ups. The platform also aims to empower the country's MSMEs.

The GeM Portal now has new features

The GeM site is also being connected with Panchayati raj organisations, allowing them to purchase and sell online as well. Other new features include a buyback system that allows purchasers to replace their old items and receive an extra discount or repurchase.

The top five states that buy from this platform are Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. 

Who is authorised to conduct transactions using the GeM portal?

Currently, ministries, government departments, state governments, public sector entities, and the Central Armed Police Forces can transact using the GeM site.
