Dr. Gurvachan Singh, a young researcher from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), has been awarded a "Young Scientist Fellow" by the Indian Council of Medical Research. Dr. Singh is currently employed as a Research Associate in the Institute of Medical Sciences' Department of Gastroenterology. Prof. Arvind Kumar Singh, Genetics Laboratory, Department of Zoology, Institute of Science, supervised him during his Ph.D.
Dr Singh has been awarded a three-year grant through the ICMR's DHR (Department of Health Research) scheme to work on a project titled "Analysis of DNA polymorphism in Indian natural populations of Drosophila ananassae by considering microsatellite variants." This project is expected to last three years. Under this project, he has been awarded a grant of Rs. 52 lakh for the Department of Zoology.
