Description

Schools reopened after prolonged closure due to covid pandemic, Congress President Sonia Gandhi made a strong demand for the resumption of mid-day meals. Gandhi raised the topic at Zero Hour, saying that as children return to school, better nutrition should be supplied.

When schools were closed because of the COVID epidemic, Gandhi remarked that the mid-day food programme was halted. During the epidemic, she claimed, children were given dry rations, and food grains were also provided under the National Food Security Act.

"However, dry rations are no substitute for hot prepared meals for children," Ms. Gandhi said. She claims that children have been the hardest hit by the pandemic because schools were the first to close and the last to reopen.
