Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla arrived in New York on Tuesday, a day before the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council are due to vote on draught resolutions on Ukraine's humanitarian catastrophe On Wednesday, Shringla will attend a Security Council discussion on collaboration between the UN and the League of Arab States. I was thrilled to meet Foreign Secretary @harshvshringla in New York. India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador T S Tirumurti, tweeted that the Foreign Secretary will attend a UN Security Council meeting on collaboration between the UN and the League of Arab States. Shringla's visit in New York comes as the United Nations prepares for a busy and critical day on Wednesday in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Following a meeting of the UN Security Council on collaboration between the UN and the League of Arab States, the Council is likely to vote on a draught resolution on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine proposed by Russia. The United Nations General Assembly will also reconvene the 11th Emergency Special Session on Ukraine and vote on a resolution proposed by Ukraine and its supporters. India has previously abstained on Security Council and General Assembly resolutions condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine. Moscow postponed a vote on its proposal last week, according to US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, because they knew they wouldn't have support for it. She did not say how the Russian proposal will be voted on at the Security Council on Wednesday "The resolution has no support in the Council. According to the American ambassador, Russia presenting a humanitarian resolution on Ukraine is similar to an arsonist asking for help putting out a fire he ignited in one of his neighbours' house "..
Everyone realises that in order to assist humanitarian organisations, the Security Council must state its stance and issue directives. That is what we propose, without any politicisation, as in every other humanitarian resolution issued by the Security Council. We don't understand why individuals say one thing yet do another. Concerning the two humanitarian resolutions, to be honest, we don't know what the General Assembly's humanitarian resolutions add. We do not want them, particularly the Western one, to become another anti-Russian paper. We do not believe such documentation is required. So, he explained, we will define our viewpoint based on these principles.
