Former India cricketer Suresh Raina earned the top 'Sports Icon' award at the Maldives Sports Awards 2022. Raina was recognised by the Maldives government for his many achievements throughout his career. Raina was one of 16 foreign athletes who had been nominated for the prize.

Raina is most recognised for his contributions to India's World Cup success in 2011 and four IPL titles with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He is the first Indian player to reach 6000 and 8000 runs in a Twenty20 career, as well as the first IPL batter to hit 5,000 runs. He also holds the record for most fifty-sixes scored in the Champions League T20.
