Highlights

The 44th Olympiad is set to take place in Chennai from July 26th to August 8th, 2022. The FIDE Chess Olympiad will be held in India for the first time since its start in 1927. The event was initially intended to take place in Russia, but FIDE withdrew from that location following the invasion of Ukraine. The location is the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort & Convention Center, 60 kilometres south of downtown Chennai. It is located in Mamallapuram, one of India's most popular tourist destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising Hindu structures from the seventh and eighth centuries. During the previous 43 official FIDE Chess Olympiads held since 1927, India has never been able to compete be the host nation.
