Description
MH17 Disaster
Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crashed in the Donetsk area of eastern Ukraine in 2014. The Malaysia Airlines flight 17 was travelling between Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). The jet was damaged by a missile while flying over eastern Ukraine. All 298 passengers and crew on board were killed when the jet crashed on July 17, 2014. There were 38 Australians, 43 Malaysians, and 196 Dutch nationalities on board the MH17 jet.
Russia's Role
Russia is said to have fired the missile that struck the airliner. At the time, Russia had annexed Crimea, and a civil war was raging between Ukraine and pro-Russian separatist rebels. Russia, on the other hand, has long denied any involvement in the 2014 MH17 jet accident. In 2020, Dutch investigators found that the MH17 airliner was struck by a surface-to-air missile launched by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine.
Concerning the legal action
Under Article 84 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, Australia and the Netherlands filed legal action before the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). When there is a disagreement between the nations, voting is used to resolve the matter, according to Article 84.
