Kerala has once again risen to the top of the maternal and child health rankings, with an all-time low Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) of 30 (per one lakh live births) in the country. According to the latest current statistics, India's maternal mortality ratio (MMR) has improved to 103 for the fiscal year 2017-19. The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in Kerala has fallen from 42 to 30. Kerala has met the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for MMR by 2020.
The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) is calculated as the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. Kerala, Telangana, and Maharashtra are among the top three states in India in terms of all-time low MMR. In West Bengal, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh, the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) has increased.
In UP, Rajasthan, and Bihar, the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) has decreased dramatically. Italy, Norway, Poland, and Belarus have the world's lowest MMR.
