Description

On March 14, 2022, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that Covid-19 vaccinations for children aged 12 to 14 years old will begin on March 16. The co-morbidity condition for giving older folks precautionary dosages has also been deleted. The preventive dosage will now be given to anybody above the age of 60. Previously, only people over the age of 60 with co-morbidities were eligible for the preventive doseIndia had already announced that COVID-19 immunisation for 15-18 year olds would begin on January 3, 2022. In the absence of an Aadhaar card, the youngsters were allowed to enrol for Covid immunisation using their 10th student ID card. From January 10, 2022, the precautionary dose was made accessible to healthcare and frontline workers, as well as people over 60 with co morbidities.

How can I schedule a COVID-19 immunisation for a child aged 12 to 15? Here are the steps:

1. Go to the CoWIN app directly or via Aarogya Setu.

2. Register using one of the parents' cellphone numbers or any legitimate mobile number.

3. Select "Receive OTP on Mobile," enter the OTP, and then proceed to validate.

4. Update the child's identity evidence on the Cowin webpage under the new category.

5. Children can be registered using their Aadhaar or 10th ID card.

6. Schedule a vaccination appointment at a nearby vaccination centre at a convenient time.

Which COVID vaccination will be given to children aged 12 to 15?

Only two vaccinations for children aged 12 to 15 have been licenced by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, Covaxin and Corbevax. However, it is probable that most vaccination clinics will only stock Covaxin for the time being. Covaxin is the first Covid vaccination authorised for beneficiaries under the age of 18. In February 2022, Biological E's Corbevax, India's first indigenously created Receptor Binding Domain Protein sub-unit vaccine against COVID-19, was authorised for emergency use in children aged 12 to 18. Corbevax is a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine that, like Covaxin, will be delivered 28 days apart.
