Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, presented his resignation to UP Governor Anandiben Patel, clearing the door for the formation of a new government in the state. Yogi Adityanath presented his resignation to the Governor at Raj Bhavan. According to an official notification from Raj Bhavan, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh accepted Yogi Adityanath's resignation and asked him to stay as caretaker Chief Minister with his cabinet till further arrangements are finalised. In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Yogi Adityanath's Bharatiya Janata Party won a record 255 seats. Senior BJP officials have still to settle on a date for the oath-taking ceremony and the claim to form the government in UP.

Yogi Adityanath, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, presided over the last meeting of his outgoing cabinet before travelling to Raj Bhavan to offer his resignation. He thanked the people of Uttar Pradesh for their support for the BJP in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. Adityanath also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his leadership and guidance. During the meeting, the State Cabinet passed a resolution emphasising that the people of Uttar Pradesh have not only shown trust in the policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but have also prepared the way for it to form the government once more by providing it a broad mandate.

Yogi Adityanath was named Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on March 26, 2017, following the Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in the 2017 Assembly Elections, in which he was a key campaigner. He has also served as a Member of Parliament representing the Gorakhpur Constituency in Uttar Pradesh for five consecutive terms since 1998.
The BJP will make a historic return in the 2022 UP Assembly elections
In the UP Assembly Elections 2022, the BJP made a historic return, winning 255 of the 403 assembly seats, clearing the way for Yogi Adityanath to serve as Chief Minister for the second time in one of the country's largest states. Its partners Apna Dal (S) and Nishad Party each won 12 seats. With the victory, the BJP became the first party in over 30 years to establish the government in Uttar Pradesh for a second consecutive term.
