Lakshya Sen of India defeated reigning world number one Viktor Axelsen in a dramatic comeback to reach the final of the German Open Super 300 today at the Westenergie Sporthalle. Sen defeated the Olympic gold medallist with a surprising comeback in the third and final game, winning 21-13, 12-21, 22-20. The 20-year-old had won the first game by a comfortable score of 21-13, giving him a one-game lead. In the second game, Axelsen produced a stunning comeback, winning 21-12 to tie the match. The world champion led the third game 15-8 as well, but Sen Came back to cut the distance to 15-19, then even the score at 19-19, and then made a spectacular comeback to claim the semi-final match with two consecutive points, 22-20. This was Lakshya Sen's first win over Viktor Axelsen. Five times, the two players have squared off against each other. Lakshya Sen was a former world junior number one. He is now rated 12th in the world. He just took bronze in the BWF World Championships in 2021.

Final of the German Open 2022

Lakshya Sen will now compete in the German Open 2022 final today, March 13, 2022, against Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn. In his semi-final match, the Thai shuttler defeated Malaysia's Zii Jia 21-13, 21-12.

Results of the German Open 2022 in badminton

Lakshya Sen had previously defeated fellow Indian player HS Prannoy in the quarterfinals 21-15, 21-16, while Axelsen had upset India's Kidambi Srikanth in straight games 21-10, 23-21. The men's doubles team of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud had previously went out following straight games losses of 11-21, 21-23 against the Chinese pair of He Jiting and Zhou Haodong. World No. 7 female shuttler from India PV Sindhu has already exited the women's singles tournament following a second-round defeat. The 2019 World Champion and two-time Olympic medalist were defeated by China's Zhang Yi Man 14-21 21-15 14-21. Saina Nehwal, the bronze medallist at the London Olympics, was also knocked out in the second round after a 10-21 15-21 loss to Thai Ratchanok Intanon, the eighth seed.

German Open 2022

The 2022 German Open is a badminton event that runs from March 8 to 13, 2022, at the Westenergie Sporthalle in Mülheim, Germany. The entire prize fund for the tournament is $180,000. The tournament is the fourth stop of the BWF World Tour 2022 and is part of the German Open championships, which have been conducted since 1955.
