Concerning the new tool
SACS is the name of the new tool (Social Attention and Communication Surveillance). It consists of two parts: SACS-Revised and SACS-Preschool. The SACS tool is being utilised in 11 countries, including Bangladesh, China, Italy, Japan, Nepal, New Zealand, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
The new tool is being tested
La Trobe University researchers in Australia performed a five-year study on around 13,500 youngsters. The screening method "tagged" 83 percent of the children aged 12 to 24 months, who were eventually diagnosed with autism. JAMA Open Network, a medical journal, published this report.
The new tool's advantage
The SACS technique can detect autism four years sooner than conventional diagnostic technologies. People with autism may have better life outcomes if they are diagnosed at a young age.
M-CHAT
M-CHAT (the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers) is the current standard test for diagnosing autism in children aged 4 to 6 years. M-CHAT has a 6 percent accuracy, which is significantly lower than the SACS-Revised tool's 83 percent accuracy.
Concerning Autism
Autistic spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition. Autism is characterised by confined and repetitive activities, as well as difficulty in social communication.
